Happy International Women’s Day – ‘I love being a strong woman’
To celebrate International Women’s Day, we sat down with our ambassador Charlotte Spence to see why she loves being a women in the fitness space!
Why do you love being a woman in fitness?
I love being a strong woman and CrossFit training is something I love for the challenge and to showcase fitness in a different way from just being a runner etc. I love that we see so many more women becoming involved and how women are now more confident in a gym environment because of CrossFit.
Do you have any advice for women who train or would like to get into fitness?
I think my best advice to anyone who looks up to me is not to put anyone on a pedestal. We are all capable of achieving, whether that is in fitness or other life aspects.
Set realistic goals & targets and be consistent with the work needed to achieve them. Understand that change doesn’t come over night.
Listening to your body is another big part of training for me, as girls we have different issues to guys. Having an awareness of when your training may differ or be effected is good for mindset, especially if you know when you can push and when to take the pressure off yourself.
The last thing would be eating, I’ve struggled with body image in the past but now I have a much better understanding that eating is fuelling for performance and aesthetics matter less.
If you want to perform well then eating well is important. Understanding basic nutrition and the value it can bring to health and subsequently training can have massive benefits.
